In order to get an idea of how many of these gems you would need for a vase, add them to the fill line in a standard 8 ounce measuring cup. Next count how many round discs are in the cup. Using the same measuring cup, simply fill it with water, pour the water into your vase and see how many cups it takes to fill the vase to the level you would want the gems to fill.
