If the tiles have a paper front, you are seeing the back of the tiles ridges. To remove from the paper, simply place the tile sheet in warm soapy water for about 3 minutes and the paper will slide off easily.

The Vetricco tiles are 3/4" x 3/4" square glass mosaic tiles. They have a smooth edge, eliminating the need for grinding. Tiles have ridges on one side in order to cut them down when a smaller piece or shape is required.
